The Norwegian and the Mousetrap

The Norwegian and the Mousetrap

There is a Norwegian student who I know at school - nice lad. Seems normal enough. I'll call him Jens (not his real name). Jens is actually pretty conservative for a European.

When we were sitting in a classroom going through a homework, Jens saw a mousetrap. Jens stopped what he was doing and looked, transfixed, at the object. He was visibly afraid of it, and had clearly never seen anything like it in his life. The mousetrap was clearly not armed, with the arm flopped harmlessly at an angle, but to be absolutely sure, Jens pushed it quickly from the side with one finger, before pulling his arm away sharply, like the mousetrap might suddenly morph into a Rottweiler and engulf his arm.

"Is that really a mousetrap?" he said. I guess maybe he thought it might be a satirical art installation.

I like Jens, but I have to say in good fun, if that's the reaction he has to a mousetrap, I guess if he saw a firearm he would have some kind of seizure.
